The long-awaited(?) "Why This Blog Is Gathering Dust" post

Hey, y'all.

Just figured I should finally explain why for the past... uh... three weeks or so, there have been a total of two posts that were more than a link to somewhere- and even those links have been few and far between. Much has been happening in the life of Brad. I'm in the process of trying to de-cluster the mess I've made of my office over the past few months. See, this two-man shop has been run by me and only me for about five months now, much to its detriment. Now it's back to being a two-man shop (yay!) but I have to get my new boss up to speed before I go on leave. Oh yeah, in a week or so I'm going back to Bama to see my daughter get born. And help my wife out during the process. Oh, and just maybe move into a house. So for most of August, I probably won't even be looking at this blog, much less posting on it.

So. I'm getting progressively busier and busier. I'm chock full of crap I could write about- every day I see at least two or three bloggable items in the news- but even if I wasn't insanely busy, my time management skills are lacking, to say the least. So right now the blog is not nearly high enough on the priority list to get more than a daily cursory look.

No promises for the future, either. I really ran out of bloggy steam shortly after coming to MuNu. I still haven't finished the template, or gotten around to updating my status at TTLB or the Alliance- and without a magic wand, progress will not be made anytime soon. We'll see what happens when I come back off leave, but unless I manage to ungaggle myself- well... we'll see.

All whinyness aside, for those regulars out there who keep coming faithfully back to SITYSK™, hoping against hope that there'll actually be something here to read, many thanks. I love doing this. I still have megalomaniacal plans to be the Greatest Freakin' Blogger in th' Whole Daggone 'Sphere™ one day, but I'll have to work my way up, I guess.

Okeedokee. I just got a call from my NCO, saying that formation in the morning will be ten minutes earlier than the forty minutes early it was already going to be. Maybe I should go to sleep. Cheers.

Technical Difficulties

Be advised comments are inop UFN.

Oh, sorry, lemme translate that from Avionish Maintenancese to English. Comments on all MuNu blogs are broke right now. As soon as they're back up I'll update this.

Feel free to try anyway, just don't waste time on a long comment, I guess. If I see new comments, then I guess it works.

UPDATE: They're back up. Life is swell.

MuNuby Needum Help

Hey, y'all, if you trackback somebody, and then re-edit your post a bit and save it again, will it re-ping the blog you trackbacked? Even if the "URLs to Ping" box is empty? 'Cuz if that's the case, it's... irritating. If it's not the case, I have no idea why I'm sending multiple pings.

Hmm. I remember seeing something vaguely about this at Munuviana. Maybe I should go check.

UPDATE: ...whoa.

Okay, folks, today's tidbit of strange information is ready:

If you do a search at Munuviana for "ping", it lists every post that every Munuvian has ever written.

...my eyes hurt now. I've never done that much scrolling in my life.

UPDATE THE SECOND: Disregard. I found out what's causing it. Munuviana is friggin' awesome.

...but that search incident is still messing with my head...

Hooray! Fun neat things!

Good news! Thanks to the never-ending hard work of Pixy Misa, The MuNuMaster, all my old Bog*Splot entries are here at the new site. WOOHOO! They are now forever safe from the clutches of the Bloggmonster. Thanks to Jim for the heads-up, even though I've been checking Munuviana religiously waiting for the Importeriser.

Also, thanks to Kate, I got me a nifty "Recent Comments" thingy. Still a bit of tweaking to do to the sidebar but it's getting there. Finally got around to letting TTLB and the Alliance know I changed my URL so they can update me. Still working on making SITYSK™ a three-column blog. Don't want Eric to think I'm wasting his time...

...and now, for some content! (I hope.) Been a very busy week at work after a kinda-sorta busy month, so blogging has pretty much screeched to a halt lately- but it looks like I'm over the hump and will be able to write all the stuff I've been meaning to. Especially bashing the ACLU. If I don't get off my keester and write something Jay might kick me off the BlogBurst. noooo...

Okay, well, it's late, and my brain has stopped working. That's my excuse if this post is written strangely. Brad is tired. I will sleep now.

I have freakin' isues

I think I'm taking blogging a little too seriously...

So I had a dream last night that the Emperor linked to me. Do I need to make an appointment with the Bloggy Psychiatrist?

I swear... my subconscious mind just does whatever it friggin' wants. KrAzY.

bloggy word usage question

Hey, The Readers™! I'm sure somebody knows the answer to this, 'cuz I see it everywhere. When a writer (usually a blogger) writes "(sic)" after a word, does that stand for "spelling incorrect"? Because usually it follows a misspelled word. ...but, sometimes it doesn't... hence my confusion. Any ideas?

Stuck in the bloggy doldrums

Ugh. Bloggy things are bad. General blogginess is at an all-time low.

After one failed attempt at vacation (which slowed blogging) and one successful one (which ground it to a halt), I am back in Honduras. Actually have been since Friday. But bloggy things are bad. With a mountain of work in front of me, and me being in a kind of weird transitional period where I need to ungaggle myself and figure some life issues out (and I do not recommend soul-searching while undergoing major projects at work) blogging will continue to be curtailed indefinetely. Ugh.

I do love it, though, and as soon as things are straightened out I'll be back at it. Doing this has put me in the mindset where anything I hear or read, be it political, social, or whathaveyou, my mind automatically fisks. S'very odd. I need to get me some kinda doodad that I can just talk into (like a little portable tape recorder) and then connect it to my computer, whereupon it dumps everything I said into Blogger and posts it. This "typing" crap is so last millenium.

And with that, I'll leave you with the Quote of the Day, from Commander Montgomery Scott:

"Ah. A keyboard. How quaint." (Star Trek IV)

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So I liveblogged the whole friggin' inauguration.

And when I went to click "save draft", to proof & post it after lunch, Blogger wasn't working.

Erased the whole thing.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

But hey, I go by the idea that if somebody offers something for free, you don't really have the right to complain if it's jacked up.

But still.

Grrr.

Note to self: Whenever writing anything longer than this post here, cut & paste and save it to Microsoft Word. Just in case Blogger craps out, later on I'll be able to re-cut & re-paste, and post the stinkin' thing.

Grrr.

Bloggy slump

Hey, The People™, sorry about the lack of intelligent posting this week. I spent all my bloggy time over the weekend making SITYSK™ all purty. This week I'm either busy at work or, when I have time to post, I'm either tired or can't put anything together. I got a lot of stuff on deck to write, I just have to get around to it. Stay tuned.

m'kay

Well, the blog looks kindasorta the way I want it to now. More tweaking to follow some other time, but I think it's getting there.

Input, loyal Readers! Input!

UPDATE: Messed around with the font a bit. Whatch'y'all think?

(Yes, "whatch'y'all" is a word. I speak Alabamian, deal with it.)

UPDATE #2: The People™ have spoken! The Font™ shall be "Trebuchet"! So let it be decreed!

(Thanks, y'all)

Give me your input, SITYSK™ Readers!

Well, I spent some time messing around with my template tonight. It looks a little different now. What do y'all think? Any proposed changes?

UPDATE: It took me all of ten seconds to find out I still have work to do. I give up. I'm going to bed.

Still wanna know what y'all think, though.

Bloggy technical question

Okay, I'm getting irritated. For some reason, if you italicize anything in my comments, it squishes your next sentence up against the end of what was italicized. If you type it the way you want it and then preview it, it looks right, but then when you post it, it's all jacked up. Even [p] for paragraph break and [BR] for line break won't work, 'cuz it kicks those tags out when it's doing comments.(Brackets wrong on purpose.)

...grrr...

Anybody know what's going on?

UPDATE: Also, when attempting to change my archiving to monthly, my blog went completely insane.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Okay, the archiving is fixed. Don't know what its problem was.

Bloggy Aesthetics Poll

Hey, the blockquotes on Blogger seem okay in moderation, but for a fisking they can get downright annoying. The author would like The People's™ input on whether blockquotes should be changed to italics in the future.

'Cuz, you know, I'm here for you. This is a reader-friendly blog.

UPDATE, 30 Mar: Well, if you're going through my archives, I'm changing all the old irritating italics to blockquotes. Since I wrote this post I've learned quite a bit about HTML and now know a bit more about making things all purty.

500 visitors!!! YAAAAAAAaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

(/Howard Dean mode)

Okay, I know everybody spells The Scream "yeeaaarrgghhh", but it always sounded like "yaaaahhh" to me. Anywho...

Wonderful comments recently left on SITYSK™:

Thanks for StuffIThinkYouShouldKnow-alancheing me, by the way! Wahoo! Talk about hitting the big-time!
Well, IowaSoccerMom, I'm really curious as to how many hits you got because of me, but okay. You're welcome.
I'm sitting in Tokyo and reading your blog...
Holy Crap... I'm bi-continental!

Okay, that sounded weird. Moving on...

You made it to the big time over at my place -- I took you out of the blogroll and added you to my permanent links. You're part of the Authentic Official Original Musings Drop Down Menu System™ dude. Aren't you impressed?
Highly. That makes three bloggers who think enough of SITYSK™ to link to me. YAAAAaaa... oops, there I go again.

UPDATE: Um, oops. I just realized that the first two lines of this post were subconciously but blatantly plagiarized from CD. I had to give credit where it's due, because last time he shook his fist and scared me.

Bloggy technical PSA

The author would like The People™ to be informed of the following: If your text size is not set to "medium", the babblings on the sidebar (between the Blogger sign and the Site Meter) will not look right. Just trying to help.

And as for my previous question about links, if I would have taken the time to look around the 'sphere, I wouldn't have had to ask it. Out of all the blogs on my blogroll, only SIT includes punctuation with the link. Since I learned how to blog from CD, I picked up the habit. Well brother, I'd say this looks like a mandate. I might have to change my ways.

Bloggy grammar question

Hey, bloggers! ...and anybody that's ever made a hyperlink! I got a question. When I make links should I include any punctuation that's attached to the word? Like this? Or not, like this?

What? Quit laughing at me! These are serious questions! I need to know this stuff if I'm gonna be a rich and famous blogger someday!

...I'm pooped. I wrote a lot of crap today. If you haven't seen it, click on the test links. I'd say that's a good day's blogging.

...buh-BYE.

Are my eyes getting weak or is my blog going crazy?

Hey, um, every time I read my blog the text seems to be getting smaller. I figure it's most likely my monitor, or some value changed with my computer. Does it look normal to y'all?

UPDATE: It must be my computer, 'cuz the text at SIT looks smaller too. Maybe we somehow slipped a font size... hmm...

UPDATE to the UPDATE: Okay, real simple answer, the text size was set to "smaller". Moved it back to "medium". Very peculiar. I didn't change it in the first place. Nobody else uses this computer. Uhh...

Another bloggy technical question

Okay. Whenever I try to link to somebody's blog by using trackback it doesn't work. I do fine if I cut-and-paste the address bar from the page, but if I actually go the route of "the trackback url for thus-and-such is (long string of unitelligible crap)", it never works. Am I missing something?

Um... grrr?

Okay, sometimes my blogroll doesn't show up. I have no idea why, because sometimes it does. Hmm. Beats me. Anybody out there got any ideas?

strange...

Okay, thanks to me changing my blog clock from Pacific to Central, the post I just made is third (well, fourth now) from the top. Vagaries of blogging. SarahK, it was directed to you, I hope you didn't miss it.

UPDATE: Computers are fun. Go back, edit posts, make up times so they fit where they go. yup.

Now to come up with some actual material instead of stuff like this...

SITYSK™

Sit-isk. Sit-yisk. Hmm. Time will tell, but I think I might have something there.

And I swear, I didn't steal "SIT" from CD, it just worked out that way.

Well, it has a name now

Hooray. I thought of a name that wasn't already taken. It'll probably change, 'cuz I don't really like it much, but it's a start. Or I guess it's the second step. Work calls. Later.

UPDATE: I'll probably be busy for a couple hours, but hopefully by the time I leave work this afternoon I'll have posted something intelligent. Don't know what yet, but if I think of a random topic I should be good.

Still taking requests for a name. Or any comments at all.

December 14, 2004

yay!

Okay, I have a freakin' blog now. It doesn't have a name, because the first six names I thought of were already in use. So I'm taking suggestions unless I actually come up with something fitting. But since I have no idea where this is going, I'm sure the name will become obvious when I figure out exactly what kind of blog I have. yup.

So anyway. It's a start. I'm off to tell my good friend CD, because this is all his fault. Later.
