bloggy word usage question

Hey, The Readersâ„¢! I'm sure somebody knows the answer to this, 'cuz I see it everywhere. When a writer (usually a blogger) writes "(sic)" after a word, does that stand for "spelling incorrect"? Because usually it follows a misspelled word. ...but, sometimes it doesn't... hence my confusion. Any ideas?
